Dusty humanity.....
From dust you came, to dust you will return,
marked now with this symbol of your frailty,
remember that you are good,
it’s so easy to deny it,
many of our religious liturgies do,
we are charged with the task of reflection,
of introspection, of searching our souls
in an effort to overcome,
to cleanse,
to purify,
to become different…
+
But, what if our deeper task is to sweep away the clutter and dust,
of our own self-condemnation and to find the innate goodness within,
what if we are truly good,
truly filled with compassion, capable of great kindness,
what if we are more capable than we think,
what if our true nature, holds the finger prints of our creators love,
and we are cosmic stardust moulded into beings filled with potential?
+
Dare we look at our own goodness?
Perhaps that terrifies us beyond all else,
for if we are good,
then we are responsible,
and if we are responsible then we are powerful,
and if we are powerful, we’d better act wisely,
love well…
+
Maybe it would be easier to leave the dust be,
not to disturb it,
and to lay complacent beneath the grimy blanket,
potential veiled,
possibilities masked,
goodness hidden,
maybe it’s easier to believe the lie,
we are nothing but dust,
and so we embrace a dusty humanity….
